We are a unique, privately held ornamental fish food manufacturer specializing in the production of ultra high quality pelletized foods for the most discerning of hobbyists and connosueirs. 

Although the first koi foods were not officially offered to both hobbyists and Japanese koi breeders until 1997, the idea of establishing a top-level koi food producing facility based in the USA was spawned in the fall of 1996, when our founder, Theia de Aenlle, was touring Niigata during the fall koi harvest. While there, she approached by an esteemed breeder who noticed that she and her koi loving family had grand and novel ideas on how to make outstanding food for these magnificent fish. The problem the breeders everywhere face to this day, is that all of the large scale feed producers utilize the cheapest ingredients possible in their production. Cheaper invariably means older or of lower quality. Food produced this week using two year old ingredientd is really two years old food somewhat refreshed. The ingredients simply do not gain nutritional value as they age. Even worse, these ingredients accumulate high amounts of preservatives over time. This keeps them from  becoming rancid but is still a very bad side effect of storing perishable ingredients for extended period of time. As a result of this meeting, Dainichi Fish Food was soon established in Southern California. Using the best ingredients sourced here in the USA, and utilizing the exclusive encapsulation process after extrusion of the pellets, we can proudly say that we produce food which are unequalled in potency and quality anywhere in the world.

Although Dainichi initially specialized almost exclusively in the production of encapsulated koi foods, over the following years, we have expanded to include a rich variety of unequalled formulas for cichlids, goldfish, tropicals and now even formulas for marine fish, bettas and turtles.
