Concentrated Nutrition For All Discus
Red and blue pellet mix
What makes our Dainichi Discus Foods stand out?
As discus come in such a wide range of varieties and colors, it seemed like a daunting task to develop a one-fits-all formula. Therefore, Dainichi Discus food comes as a mix of two distinct foods blended into one convenient medley. There are astaxabthin-rich red pellets intended to keep all of the red and orange types at their best. In addition to the green pellets which are super concentrated with carotenoids and cantaxanthin to bring out the beauty of all the blue and turquoise varieties.
These encapsulated 1.0 mm sinking pellets are packed with nutrition through-and-through. There are quite literarly four seperate inclusions of vitamins, minerals, krill, garlic, and three doses each of spirulina and astaxanthin. With the finishing toppers being the inclusion of calcium montmorillonite clay and marine copepods, this food stands out in a class of its own.
One of the main requirements was to produce food not only using the best and freshest ingredients possible, but also by using a novel processing techniques which is not utilized by any other food manufacturers. And of course, the food had to be formulated to provide growth, nutrition, and physical beauty needed to raise your discus. The result are the Dainichi Discus Food we all can enjoy today.

Here Is Where The Dainichi Magic Happens.
After the extruded pellets cool down to ambient temperature, they undergo another major manufacturing process. Ingredients which suffer any degradation from exposure to heat during the extrusion process, are subsequently mixed into a slurry which we apply to the pellets. This is not a token and inconsequential “encapsulation” but a true nutritional layer of ingredients comprising as much as 12% of the pellet’ weight. Thus, the prebiotics, vitamins, appetite stimulants, and color enhancers which are applied at this low temperature to provide un-compromised levels of nutrition and potency. Dainichi is the only food producer in the world to offer this level of potency and nutrition.
No other un-encapsulated food can match these levels of performance which even our own Inochi Koi Foods can’t match. This encapsulation process is extremely costly and labor intensive, easily doubling the cost of manufacture, which is why we, Dainichi Fish Food are the only manufacturer in the world to offer this feature.
Discus FX offers a complete balance of proteins and carbohydrates to ensure success in keeping these challenging fish. This food contains the widest array of marine and vegetable proteins, algae, and color enhancing ingredients which are intended to keep discus healthy, active and in top form as befitting the ‘king’ of freshwater fish.
Proper Usage
All of this food’s outstanding features will keep the discus healthy, active and above all else, beautiful. The 41% protein content will provide enough fuel for growth in a typical aquarium or show tank. Reared on only dry diet, the fish can be expected to attain 5-6 inches in over-all size. This is usually fine for most hobbyists however, discus can attain a considerably larger size at around 7-8 inches! Such feat can be accomplished by utilizing a special preparation of animal ingredients such as beef heart in a gelatin matrix. The yield in terms of growth is unequalled when compared to any dry pellet or flake food (up to 1″per month of growth), but it comes with some major risks. Such food pollutes the water much more, sometimes resulting in pH crashes and bacterial blooms. In some cases the pH crash can result in very severe eye damage and the death of any other companion species kept with the discus. As such, frozen beef heart and intensive grow-out should be carried out in designated tanks with 50-70% daily water changes. As there are no color intensifying properties in beef, the fish will look subdued in color intensity.
A Compromise Can Be Reached.
There is of course a happy medium, where a carefully monitored feeding program can be implemented to include both types of foods to get both the impressive size, as well as the un-compromised beauty. The grow-out tank in the example above has a bare-bottom front section to facilitate fast and easy clean up and water changes. As mentioned previously, colors are not a strong feature of frozen foods.
A display tank where Discus FX is lightly supplementd with a high protein supplenent can provide a heathy and beautiful environment for discus and natural plants.
