Inochi COLOR PRO is a premiere color enhancing food formulated with an abundance of pigment-intensive ingredients such as Antarctic krill and a highest grade of 100% cultured spirulina. The addition of Montmorillonite clay and marine and vegetable based proteins, ensure a complete and well balanced diet. COLOR PRO can be used alone or in conjunction with our GROWTH PLUS or ALL-SEASON formulas.
As in all other Dainichi koi foods, COLOR PRO contains calcium montmorillonite clay to simulate the natural ingestion of mineral particles and to bind and neutralize metabolic toxins. The scouring action of the clay enhances a continued rejuvenation of the digestive tract, which in turn ensures a maximum rate of digestion and assimilation of nutrients. With only two sources of starch (flour as binder and wheat germ as a source of vitamins E and B), COLOR PRO keeps the body conformation of all koi in a constant show-ready condition. As an additional benefit, the low waste production by koi, helps keeps the dissolved organics levels low in your pond, making it an invaluable aid in eliminating algal blooms.

Feed your fish only as much as they will eat (immediately) in a few minutes, 2 to 4 times daily. Smaller, more frequent feeding are preferred over a single large one. All Dainichi foods have low levels of starches to prevent excessive swelling in the digestive tract and to maintain a lean show-ready body conformation. COLOR PRO is recommended for use during peak activity months when water temperature is above 60°-65° F. This is a fast color formula. Maximum color is usually achieved after 4 - 6 weeks of use. There are no ill effects from continuous use, however, prolonged periods of use and/or very heavy feedings can result with the whites of koi turning slightly pink. This guideline of course, applies only to koi with white coloration. In such instance it is advisable to reduce the amount of COLOR PRO being fed and/or a switch to any of our other formulas, with the exception of PREMIUM, which also has color enhancing properties. If the speed at which color is brought up is not a consideration, the exact same color brightness and intensity can be achieved with more control through a regular use of the PREMIUM or PREMIUM PRO formulas. COLOR PRO does not contain any astaxanthin or other concentrated pigment additives which often turn the whites of koi a dirty yellow color. However, if the whites of the koi were to turn a pink hue from too much spirulina intake, koi keepers can take comfort in knowing that the clean, bright, white color can return in about two weeks, whereas the yellowed whites produced by other means can remain dingy for a number of weeks.
To maximize both color and growth rate, this formula can be used with our krill food, GROWTH PLUS.
A ratio of one part color food to 2-3 parts growth food produces very good results.
It takes a lot of knowledge, research and experience to formulate and produce a great color enhancing food. More specifically, food that will maximize the reds on the koi without blowing out the whites, and turning them beige or yellow hue. In this photo, the red color (hi) is a great as can be. A bigger challenge is to not riun the white areas on the same fish. But the biggest challenge of all, is TO KEEP the white areas on the shiro utsuri (black and white) from retaining the carotenoids in the food and depositing them in the white areas. A well proportioned pattern of black and white can be super attractive! A black and dingy yellowish beige pattern? Not so much.
COLOR PRO, like all of the other formulas in the Inochi line, is not encapsulated with a nutritional coating found in the Dainichi Koi Foods. Instead, all of the ingredients are extruded in a single-step process used in traditional pelletized food manufacture. This process makes the food better suited for automated feeders as moisture and humidity do not adversely affect the nutritional coating as there simply isn't one. An added benefit is that without the extra manufacturing steps and expense of the encapsulation process, the Inochi foods are about 20-30% cheaper.
