Refined At The Highest Levels of Koi Competition
From the Japanese Pros to Your Koi Pond!
Koi foods essentially fall into two distinct types, the fully encapsulated pellets such as our own Dainichi Koi Food formulas, and…the rest. In the standard method of koi food production, all ingredients are batched, milled, extruded, dried and packaged for sale. The manufacturing methods can vary somewhat according to the type of machinery used, but in general, the biggest difference between brands is the formulation and the ingredient selection. And here is where the Inochi foods stand aside from all of the rest. That these formulas offer top performance in terms of growth, appearance and ease of maintenance is undeniable –as the formulations originated from our cooperation with Minoru Mano in Niigata, and we sold these very same foods to more than a dozen of top Japanese breeders for many years. What truly sets these foods appart is the improved extrusion process and the best-in-the-world ingredients.
For starters, we do not use any low mediocre aquaculture grade ingredients in our foods. Aside from the Antarctic krill and white fish meal, both of which are caught in the wild and cannot be certified as organic, all of our other ingredients are human-grade or organic in nature. Such ingredients are rarely seen in other foods as they greatly impact the price of the finished product. We, however, do not compromise on this as we firmly stand behind our motto of: “Because Your Fish Deserve the Best!”
The ingredient selection is key, but we still improve the food much further. From the inception of our company in 1996 until 2010 we used a single screw extruder to produce great pelleted foods, but in 2011 we switched to a high-torque, high-shear twin screw extruder which makes absolutely the best quality the pellets can be! By doing so, we are able to cook the pellets using high pressure in the extruder barrel and 30% less heat! This means that all of the ingredients which previously were denatured or compromised by the heat, are now fully functional.
Finally, with the simpler single-step manufacturing process, we can offer these foods at 30% savings from our process-intensive Dainichi foods. Inochi foods therefore are a great choice to be used as a complete feeding diet are a staple offering that can be supplemented occasionally with some Dainichi food for the extra benefits of those foods.
Finally, as these foods are uncoated, they are an ideal choice when utilizing an automated food dispenser. Without the natural gum binder, these foods will not stick together in the storage compartment even in the presence of high humidity.
A nice scenic view of koi mud ponds in Niigata, the birthplace of our koi foods. The un-coated Inochi koi foods are ideal for use here. Without the natural gum binder, the food can be preloaded into automatic feeders without worrying about the pellets sticking inside the feeder.
Fall harvest is when the quality of the water, bloodline and the food are judged. A hobbyist can have good koi with a combination of any two factors out of the three. A breeder must have all three to attain success.
The Verdict Is In!
At this level of koi breeding and competition, cutting corners on ingredient quality or process will loose the battle. This is why only the best of everthing goes into our foods!
